5 Types of People Who Should Outsource Their Blog

Do you love blogging?

If you’re squirming in your seat right now, or maybe laughing out loud, no worries. Having a blog is an expectation of most small business owners—including photographers—and it can be a great tool for your business. But not many people love the work involved. And you know what? That’s okay.

Before we dive into the 5 types of people who should outsource their blog writing, I’m going to bottom-line it for you. If you don’t love blogging, you shouldn’t have to do it.

…But you should still have a blog.

Sometimes (okay, pretty much all the time) small business owners feel like they have to wear all the hats—including being a stellar writer who creates outstanding web content on a consistent basis. But in reality, most people who are really good at what they do focus in on what they love and let somebody else handle the rest. After all, why did you start your own business in the first place? Wasn’t it to do something you’re passionate about? To wake up every day knowing that you get to do something you love? To have more flexibility, greater work-life balance, more moments that matter?

A blog can support that dream, but only if you enjoy blogging…or don’t have to worry about it. If you don’t love blogging, read on to find out what kind of blogger you are currently—and how outsourcing your blog could help you get more website traffic, establish your expertise, and connect you with clients. All without having to write a single word.

What Kind of Blogger Are You?

Are you one of these 5 types of people who should outsource their blog?

Type 1: The Back-Burner Blogger

If you’re a back-burner blogger, you have a blog—you even have some posts published. Maybe even a lot of posts published. But you have such a lot going on that blogging gets pushed down the list of priorities.

Maybe you do really great at the beginning of each year, while your New Year’s resolution is still bright and shiny, but your blog posts trail off by spring. Or maybe you let your blogging pile up and then publish half a dozen posts all at once…then wait another three or four months before the next batch.

Whatever the details, your blog is only updated irregularly.

How Outsourcing Your Blog Can Help the Back-Burner Blogger

A good ghost blogger is going to help you put together a schedule that works for your business. Together, you’ll decide if that means a couple of short blog posts every week, or maybe just one longer one at the beginning of each month.

Your writer will help keep you accountable, and will probably have some flexibility to create a workflow that works well for you. For example, I usually do subscription packages so my clients get new blog posts each month. But if you like to work in big batches, no problem! You can send me all the info at once and then not even think about your blog at all over the next several months while I spread the blog posts out over your schedule and update your site at regular intervals.

How good does that sound?

Type 2: The Text-Free Blogger

Writer’s block is for real—and for some people it hits every time they sit down to write.

Sound like you?

I get it. Sometimes there’s nothing scarier than a blank page. Even worse is when you start writing, hate every single word, and end up erasing it all after struggling for an hour.

If you hate writing or just don’t know what to say, you may have become a text-free blogger. You post your pictures on the blog, but only manage to eke out a sentence or two to accompany them. Or maybe you skip the writing altogether.

How Outsourcing Your Blog Can Help the Text-Free Blogger

Being a text-free blogger makes blogging easy, but it also means you miss out on some great SEO opportunities and a chance to show off your expertise and passion.

Having somebody else do the writing for you means you can get a lot more out of your blog—just by sharing a little info with your blogger. No pressure on you to craft well-worded sentences or incorporate keywords appropriately. Your blogger can take care of those details and create a blog that gets better search engine results, helps more people find you, and establishes you as someone with passion and authority in your field.

Type 3: The Aimless Blogger

If you’re not entirely sure how SEO works (or what it stands for), or aren’t super confident what role a blog should play in your business, you may be an aimless blogger.

You write…once in a while. But your posts run the gamut from your latest session to book reviews to ruminations on love and loss. There’s no consistent tone or topic, and although you’re following the imperative to blog, you’re not really sure why you’re doing it.

And chances are, you’re not seeing great results.

How Outsourcing Your Blog Can Help the Aimless Blogger

Just like an experienced ghost writer can help you create a consistent schedule, they can also help you zero in on what types of blog posts will support your business.

If you’re a photographer, you may do a lot of session posts, which is great for showcasing your latest work and creating meaningful connections with clients (especially if you have some type of email or social media program that allows you to notify the family when their session is up on the blog).

But sharing information is also important. Your blogger can help you find a niche (like tips for new parents, guidance on digital photo organization, or mentoring advice for new portrait photographers) that will help your clients and your business at the same time.

Type 4: The Non-Existent Blogger

A hefty percentage of photographers don’t even have a blog. Or if they do, it hasn’t been updated in over a year…which unfortunately means it really doesn’t count, since it’s not helping their business. Is this you?

If so, you probably know that you should have a blog. It’s one of those nagging thoughts that keeps cropping up, and you keep pushing it away, because there are so many excuses not to get your blog up and running: You already tried blogging and it didn’t work. You don’t have time to blog. You don’t know how to attach a blog to your website. The idea of a blog scares the pants off you.

I’m not going to tell you that these excuses aren’t legitimate…but every one of them is standing in the way of something that could boost your SEO and improve your credibility.

How Outsourcing Your Blog Can Help the Non-Existent Blogger

Here’s the wonderful thing. Outsourcing your blog is barely more work than not having a blog at all—but it can have a big impact on the success of your business.

When you outsource your blog, you replace nagging thoughts with something more productive. Just a quick connection with your blogger on a regular basis and you have a blog that practically runs itself. It feels nonexistent, but the results are anything but.

Whether you’re the type of blogger who puts your blog on the back burner, writes aimlessly, or doesn’t write at all, odds are high that you feel like:

Type 5: The Invisible Blogger

No matter how much effort you’re putting (or not putting) into running your blog, you feel like you’re not being seen. No matter what your blog looks like, you know you’re not getting as much out of it as you could be.

This can even happen if you’re a really dedicated blogger who faithfully posts every couple of weeks. Blogging can be complicated, which means a blog that isn’t working could be down to any number of things. Maybe it’s because you don’t have a lot of experience with SEO and are over- or under-using your keywords. Maybe you’re not hitting a high enough word count for search engines to pay attention to you. Maybe you’re not using behind-the-scenes tools like alt text and meta descriptions.

Is your head starting to spin?

How Outsourcing Your Blog Can Help the Invisible Blogger

There are a lot of technical details to creating a good blog post. You have to craft a compelling title, provide useful information, highlight your craft and passion, work your keywords in there at just the right density, include links, add alt text to your images plus a short but informative meta description to each and every post, make sure there are no spelling errors, etc.

And let’s face it: Ain’t nobody got time for that…unless you’re a professional blogger.

Outsourcing your blog to someone who has experience with this type of writing can take a ton of work (and stress) off your plate, while giving you better results for your business.

Recognize yourself in any of these common blogging types? Here’s the good news: You don’t have to be that kind of blogger anymore. In fact, outsourcing your blog can help you:
